3 Idiots.... An apt name for the movie... Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller "5 Point Someone", this movie revolves around 3 guys who meet at college and end up being friends for a lifetime...
The movie starts with a fantastic introduction of Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan) and the call that lands on his mobile... U must not miss this start guys cause the tempo goes to the fifth gear right from the first scene.... The story moves in a kinda reversal sequence with two friends along with another classmate n later with the lady set off in search of the third friend, or rather the third idiotic genius and goes into a flashback about how they meet and how things move from then at their very own "Imperial College of Engg" 10 years ago....
The introduction of Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) is also one outta the box way of intros... Special mention on the introduction of Rancho -- Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan), turns out to be one of the most hilarious scenes of the movie. The life of these 3 friends and their geeky classmate Chathur ramalingham aka 'Silencer' from Uganda (Omi Vaidya) is potrayed from every manner possible within the first 25 min of the movie. Their ambitions, family situations has also been made up to a T. Next comes the wonderful introduction of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe aka ViruS (Booman Irani). This is on par with the introduction of the lead actors... His sponge like hair, 'pregnant lady' belly and his way of speech has added to the humour side to the movie. His attitude though reminds us of Prof. Cherian from Chetan's book.
The movie moves on with the tastes of the 3 young friends, their relationship and most of all, their personality traits of that of a genious, scared person, sober n sad.... Yet, it keeps us all alive with the main ingredient of this movie: Humour. The screenplay by Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijit Joshi has to be commented for their wonderful sequential way of storytelling and for maintaining the tempo of the movie till the final scene. The soft introduction of Pia ViruS (Kareena Kapoor) is really good because this made the movie more realistic and did not divert our attention from the crux of the movie.
The director Rajkumar Hirani has done a great job. Even during the sad scenes of the movie, he has made it look lighter by adding the funny part to all of it. This is best shown in the scene of Raju's family situation where the fun part comes in after Raju walks out denying his food. Also, the Teacher's day speech (which is the best speech we can come across) is really wonderful and makes us roll over the ground laughing for a long time.
Though there is a base of Bagat's book, a uniqueness is found in the potrayal of characters... Certain basic changes have been made from the book: Hari, the fatty who is the lead in the book ends up being the co-actor and Ryan, the smart n muscular dude becomes the lead actor in the movie. And, Prof. Cherian's character is subdued by the looks and make up of ViruS.... Same goes for Neha, who's very different from the lead lady Pia in the movie. The change from the story book is well noticed by the twists before the interval, during the first half (a death - tat's the only sad part) and also in the final few minutes. Special Thanks n Congrats to the director, writers and all the crew for making the movie NIL Glamourous.... Keep making such 'next door' movies with more enjoyment and minimal or nil glamour n i m sure all of us will enjoy it to the core apart from making it a grand success.
The music by Shanthanu Moitra has done the magic on all the songs specially on "All is Well" n "Duby Duby (Remix)". The theme is good. The music during the course of the movie is apt: mellow when needed, n beaty when we want it. The locations are really wonderful and makes me plan trips to Shimla and Ladakh, apart from the usual Mumbai, Delhi n Bangalore locations. The IIM-B is really a nice campus, well potrayed and pictured... Good for CAT aspirants from my view of it.
I would call it a must watch movie for all the people. I would also add that the way the movie moves on would be easily understandable for a person who knows not even Basic hindi... Its so simple in the way its shown on the 70mm screen. Though this movie has all ingredients, Humour - the primary ingredient, gets more focus like the smell of garam masala powder in our gravy. And, it ends up being really nice just as a wonderful yummy gravy dish would!!!... Aal izz Well!!! Aal iiz Well!!!
My Personal Rating: 9.5/10
Verdict: A must watch family Entertainer with fun in store from all sides.... !!!!!!
